Five things prior to tonight’s Predators/Blue Jackets game…

Nashville comes into tonight’s game dropping six of their last seven games (1-4-2) with their only win coming last Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Columbus, on the other hand, had won three straight games before seeing their win streak snapped against the Chicago Blackhawks this past Thursday night.

After tonight, Nashville has only six home games remaining while they play 12 of their last 18 on the road.

  • Pekka Rinne, who has dropped his first two starts since returning from a bacterial infection in his hip that had sidelined him since October 22nd, is only five wins short of tying Tomas Vokoun’s all-time franchise win record of 161 wins. Rinne should have no problem meeting that record at some point, but if his teammates can’t light the lamp more than once a game, it may take a while.
  • Speaking of goal scoring, Nashville’s goals-per-game has dropped to 2.40, good for 24th overall in the NHL (ahead of Minnesota, Florida, Los Angeles, Calgary, Vancouver, and Buffalo).
  • The Predators powerplay has taken a hit, recently, unable to convert in their last 14 attempts (all at home, all regulation losses). When Nashville records a powerplay goal in a game this season, they have a record of 20-6-2. Columbus has the 16th best powerplay in the entire league, but have allowed at least one powerplay goal in three of their past five games
  • Coming into tonight’s game, Columbus sits two points out of the final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference with 19 games remaining. Nashville, currently riding a three-game losing streak, is eight points behind Dallas for the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference with 19 games remaining.
  • Will Columbus be able to find a win tonight against the Predators in Nashville? In the 38 games they’ve played in Nashville, the Predators own a 30-4-4 record against them. However, over the last two seasons they’ve gone 3-3-0 against the Predators in Nashville.
