Nashville defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-2 Tuesday night, here are some of our observations…

The San Jose Sharks were missing a handful of key players tonight against the Predators and Nashville was able to successfully capitalize on a hurt team exactly when they needed to. Their first game without dynamic forward Logan Couture, the Sharks knew that their game was a bit off:

“I didn’t think we were good enough. Over the next little bit, our leadership group has to step up and that starts with us as coaches. The four of us are going to pursue a big role and make sure our team is prepared and ready to play. Then comes the next level of our captains and assistants and they have to show up and play at an elite level. They have to be elite, and we weren’t at that level tonight,” said San Jose head coach Todd McLellan.

Paul Gaustad is one of those players who always seems to have a strong night. He took 26 faceoffs tonight, winning 16 of those.

Predators forward Matt Cullen, who was part of Nashville’s free agent signings over the summer, could have quite possibly played his worst game for the Predators against the Sharks this evening. Placed on a new forward line along with Rich Clune and Matt Hendricks, Cullen finished the game with a season-low 9:29 in ice time, one penalty, and won one of his four faceoffs.

Even more disappointing is the fact that Cullen, per the NHL’s official event summary, was the only player on either team to come up empty on every non-crucial recorded statistic, not registering any shots forced (on net, blocked, or missed), hits, giveaways, takeaways, or blocked shots.

Shea Weber extended his current point-streak to four games, registering two assists tonight. It’s his second-longest point streak of the season
