Smith has played a total of 21 games under the banner of Team USA in his career. While none of them on the Olympic Roster, Smith played 10 games in this year’s 2013 IIHF World Championships for Team USA, collecting a bronze medal. He also played on both the 2012 and 2011 IIHF World Championship Team USA roster as well. Smith started his international campaign in the 2008 World Junior A Challenge with Team USA, where he collected a gold medal. In total, Smith has seven goals and fifteen assists in his 21 games.

Jones recently competed internationally in the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships as assistant captain for Team USA where he collected a gold medal, himself. In his six games with Team USA during the 2013 WJC, Jones was a plus-eight, scoring a goal and six assists. Jones previously captained the 2012 IIHF Under-18 World Junior Championships Team USA roster, scoring three goals and five assists, taking home another gold medal. Rounding out his international competition, Jones acquired another gold medal in his first round with Team USA, scoring three assists for the 2011 IIHF Under-18 World Junior Championships Team USA roster.

Jones has three straight gold medals to his name, but will be competing with the United States’ best defenseman for a spot on the Sochi roster.

It’ll be interesting to see if both players end up making the full competition roster.
