Originally drafted by the Predators 56th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Blake Geoffrion has retired from the NHL as a result of injuries sustained during an AHL game with the Syracuse Crunch this past November.

The Montreal Canadiens, along with Geoffrion, issued this statement today:

““After suffering an injury in November and taking time to recover and reflect, I have decided to step away from the game of hockey for the time being. I would like to thank Geoff Molson, Marc Bergevin, the entire Montreal Canadiens organization as well as the Hamilton Bulldogs organization for everything they have done for me. They have been unwavering in their support, professionalism and kindness. I cannot thank them enough ” said Blake Geoffrion.

“A young player appreciated by everyone within our organization, Blake has shown a lot of courage since suffering a serious injury. He made the decision to end his professional hockey career and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours” said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.””

Mentioned in a story released by ESPN’s John Buccigross, it also appears that Geoffrion will be taking a job with the Columbus Blue Jackets as a pro scout for the organization.

Geoffrion will best be remembered, along with being the first native Tennessean to be drafted in the NHL, for his hat trick against the Buffalo Sabres on March 20th, 2011:
