Stars fire head coach Glen Gulutzan, will Horachek become a candidate again?

Moments ago, the hockey world learned that Glen Gulutzan, now-former head coach of the Dallas Stars, had been terminated from his job. As the ball was dropped, the first thing that comes to my mind is Nashville Predators Associate Coach Peter Horachek.

In the previous head coaching search for the Stars, Horachek was one of four candidates in the running. While he was not the coach chosen for the job by then-GM Joe Nieuwendyk (now no longer with the team either), he has a very impressive resume behind him and the Stars took notice of it. Horachek had the spotlight on him during the search, with ESPN Dallas doing their coverage and the Predators ultimately promoting him to Associate Coach after he was notified he wouldn’t be chosen for the job by the Stars.

Horachek, who served prior to Nashville as the head coach of the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals and won a championship as the head coach of the IHL’s Orlando Solar Bears, has been a key cog for the Predators organization in his near-decade run with the team. Nieuwendyk ran a much different ship with the Stars than new-GM Jim Nill will most undoubtedly run, so it will be quite interesting to see if Horachek will get another interview as a possible candidate for the open position.

However, seeing as he seemingly impressed the Stars organization before, it wouldn’t be shocking, in my opinion, if he was highlighted again as a potential candidate. We spoke more about the possibilities of Horachek landing a head coaching job around the NHL in the most recent episode of The Predcast.
