The Admirals dropped their home opener to the Charlotte Checkers by a score of 4-3. Charlotte kept their scoring threat Zack Boychuk going with a breakaway goal for his second goal of the year while Rask, Dolan and Bowman provided the other three Checkers goals.

Milwaukee came on strong in the third period trying to get the game even but were unable to convert on a late PP. Patrick Cehlin continues his scoring with a goal and Gabriel Bourque earned the second star of the game with a 2 point night (1 goal, 1 assist).

The Admirals had a hard time staying out of the penalty box tonight and it cost them with one PP tally from Charlotte and multiple momentum-stopping efforts from relieving what would have been extra PP time for the Admirals to four-on-four play.

Latta, who provided the opening period donnybrook for the Admirals, led the game with 9 PIM, 4 minutes that could have been avoided with more disciplined play from Latta. Mattias Ekholm also had a two point night and his first professional goal in North America.

Milwaukee has no time to think about this loss as they have a game in San Antonio tomorrow night against the Rampage (Florida Panthers affiliate) at 7PM CST. The Rampage have a 1-2-0 record on the year and got beat up by the Oklahoma City Barons 5-2 tonight.

Expect the Admirals to bounce back and Coach Evason to harp on Milwaukee not giving up large leads and opening goals, especially on the road. If Milwaukee can find a way to not have to come-from-behind, the Admirals might be able to hold onto a lead with timely goaltending from Jeremy Smith. The key is to not let the opposing squad have those 2-on-1’s going back the other way for scoring chances.
