Is it possible to go ahead and say that the new guys are already on-board with Barry Trotz’s system. Getting a combined 4 points between Gaustad/Gill/and A. Kostitsyn, the Nashville Predators were able to skate away with a 3-1 win over the Florida Panthers.

Riding on the heels of Andrei Kostitsyn’s 2-point night, Pekka Rinne had 39 saves and Mike Fisher earned the game winner as the Predators pull within 4 points of 4th place St. Louis and 6 points of the Central Division leading Detroit Red Wings.

Nashville is back in action Tuesday night for the start of a 3-game homestand as they take on the Los Angeles Kings before facing the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday and the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday

Special Teams:

Powerplay – 0 for 1, 0%
Penalty Kill – 3 for 3, 100%

Best Play of the Game: Andrei Kostitsyn fired what could only be described as a goalscorer’s goal at 11:35 of the first period. Firing a shot from the right face-off circle, Kostitsyn pinpointed it to the top right corner of the net behind Clemmensen to give the Predators a 1-0 lead

Worst Play of the Game: Apparently Andrei Kostitsyn forgot what Terry Crisp lives by: “Keep your head on a swivel”. Wojtek Wolski skated right past an oblivious A. Kostitsyn and put home a one-timer past a wide open net at 7:49 of the second to cut the Predators lead to 2-1

My Three Stars:

#1: – Andrei Kostitsyn – 1 goal, 1 assist, +1 on the night. Scoring one of the best goals of the season on an absolute pin-point shot, Andrei Kostitsyn showed a taste of the talent he has. Imagine him in the playoffs, folks

#2: – Pekka Rinne – 39 saves on 40 shots. What more is there to say? It’s Pekka Rinne, making 39 saves, and only allowing one goal. Just another night at the office for Rinne, amazing saves and all

#3: – Paul Gaustad – 1 assist, +0 on the night, 15 for 22 in the faceoff circle. Even though Fisher got the official 2nd star of the night and probably deserves one, Gaustad deserves it more in my opinion. He won the tough defensive draws during the night and was a whopping 68.2% from the dot against some of the more aggressive face-off men in the league
