All Good Things Must Come to an End: Predators Blanked by Rangers

The Nashville Predators and Coach Barry Trotz went with the back-up goalie in Lindback but didn’t put in a back up plan for the secondary scoring of the New York Rangers. The Rangers lit the lamp once in each period and Henrik Lundqvist proved once again his moniker “King Henrik” is true to form.

The Predators had some decent chances and aside from Lundqvist, bad puck luck would prove to be Nashville’s downfall.

Special Teams:

Powerplay – 0 for 2, 0%
Penalty Kill – 2 for 2, 100%

Best Play of the Game: One of the many Lindback saves that kept this game within reach of the Nashville Predators, especially after some defensive breakdowns and poor puck clearing attempts by the Nashville forwards.

Worst Play of the Game: The game winner came off of Girardi’s stick towards to the goal and was ultimately tipped in by….Predators defender Jack Hillen. Dishonorable mention to Bouillon for screening Lindback on the second goal for the Rangers

My Three Stars:

#1: – Henrik Lundqvist – 29 saves on a perfect shutout. Tested numerous times especially on an odd-man rush where he stopped three point blank opportunities from Legwand and Hornqvist.

#2: – Dan Girardi – A lucky tip may have got him the game winning goal but solid play and a +3 on the night were the difference from the all-around defenseman recently voted into his first All-Star game.

#3: – Ryan McDonagh – Even though Mitchell and Callahan tallied in the game, the defense in front of Lundqvist only added to his ability to get the shutout. McDonagh also had a +3 rating and logged the most minutes for his team.
