While the orange and black clad masses entered the Bridgestone Arena to cheer on the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, the Nashville faithful had different plans. Getting 2 point games from Erat/Kostitsyn/Fisher, the Nashville Predators grabbed an all-important 2 points in the heavily stacked Western Conference race, beating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 17,113.
Nashville has now won four in a row and seven of their past eight. They have a two-game back-to-back swing in New York against both NYC teams starting Monday night against the Islanders.
Special Teams:
Powerplay – 1 for 3, 33%
Penalty Kill – 2 for 2, 100%
Best Play of the Game: Sergei Kostitsyn fires another one of his patented lasers, for the second game in a row, this time right past Ilya Bryzgalov to give Nashville a 2-0 lead midway through the second period
Worst Play of the Game: With Ryan Ellis unable to clear Wayne Simmonds out of in front of the Nashville net, Simmonds collects a rebound from Pekka Rinne and fires it past him amongst the confusion to bring it within one-goal and make it 3-2 Nashville at 9:55 of the third period.
My Three Stars:
#1: – Sergei Kostitsyn – 1g, 1a, +2 on the night. Kostitsyn is on fire, just that simple. 5 points in his last 5 games. 4 goals on 6 shots in that time.
#2: – Sean Couturier – 1g, 1a +2 on the night. Great night for the Flyers rookie, grabbing his 13th and 14th points of the season, including that bullet of a shot for his 8th goal of the year
#3: – Pekka Rinne – 36 saves on 38 shots. Grabbing his 22nd win of the year, Rinne made some highlight reel saves against an offensive dynamo in the Flyers. Rinne now has 3 straight wins and 6 in his past 7 games.
