Weber-less Predators Get Blitzed By Detroit 4-1

Getting two goals from Valtteri Filppula and extras from Cleary and Datsyuk, the Detroit Red Wings dumped a little post-Christmas coal into Nashville’s proverbial stocking, beating up a Shea Weber-less Predators 4-1 in front of a sold out crowd.

Jon Blum was able to break up the goose-egg, however it was too little too late as Detroit had goals in all three periods while Nashville has given up 19 in their previous 4 games

HIGHLIGHTS:

Special Teams:

Powerplay – 0 for 5, 0%
Penalty Kill – 2 for 2, 100%

Best Play of the Game: While mass confusion pulled Pekka Rinne out to the side of the net, Valtteri Filppula was left all alone with a empty (literally) net to give Detroit a 4-0 lead 5:22 into the third period

Worst Play of the Game: A bad turnover leads to Henrik Zetterberg finding Valtteri Filppula open to the left of Pekka Rinne, who tapped it in to make it a 1-0 Detroit lead 10:57 into the first period

My Three Stars:

#1: – Valtteri Filppula – 2g, 0a, +2 on the night. Great performance for such an underrated player for Detroit

#2: – Jimmy Howard – 31 saves on 32 attempts. Had the shutout broken up late in the third period, but was making key stops throughout the game to keep Detroit way ahead

#3: – Ryan Ellis – 0g, 0a, -1 on the night. Kept off the scoresheet all night, however on his NHL career debut Ellis played an overall good game. Hammered shots away on the powerplay in the third period and played 18+ minutes overall.
