When Nashville’s deadly powerplay gets held with no goals on 5 attempts, things may not be looking bright. With goals from Ovechkin, Backstrom, Semin, and Brouwer, the Washington Capitals stopped the Predators cold in their tracks with a 4-1 win, ending Nashville’s 5-game win streak.

Lindback took the loss for Nashville making 19 saves on 23 attemps while Neuvirth earned the win for Washington making 22 saves on 23 attempts. Nashville plays Columbus on Thursday on the first of a back-to-back before Christmas break.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Special Teams:

Powerplay – 0 for 5, 0%
Penalty Kill – 1 for 2, 50%

Best Play of the Game: Alexander Semin toe-drags the puck and wrists one with pinpoint accuracy into the top right corner of the net giving the Capitals a 3-1 lead. An utterly amazing shot on net from Semin

Worst Play of the Game: Jon Blum stays with Ovechkin who is cherry-picking at the Predators blue line, however Ovechkin takes a pass, gets past Blum, and puts it past Lindback for a 1-0 Capitals lead in the first period.

My Three Stars:

#1:  - Nicklas Backstrom – 1g, 1a, +1 on the night. Great job from Backstrom leading the way for the Capitals. He made it 2-0 late in the first and stayed in great position all night long.

#2: – Alexander Semin – 1g, 0a, +1 on the night. What an amazing goal from Semin to make it a 3-1 lead midway in the third period. Couldn’t have been much flashier than that

#3: – Marcus Johansson – 0g, 2a, +1 on the night. The unsung hero for the Capitals assisting on both of Washington’s third period goals.
