Chicago Bests Nashville 5-4 in a “Terrifyingly” Undisciplined Halloween Game

A back and forth scoring game all night, it took overtime to decide this one, although not a shootout. Viktor Stalberg scored 2:18 into the overtime period and gave the Chicago Blackhawks an exciting win after an exciting game. Chicago (7-2-2) now leads Nashville (5-4-2) by 4 points in the Central Division

Special Teams:
Powerplay – 1 for 3, 33.3%
Penalty Kill – 0 for 7, 100%

Best Play of the Game: Hustle and determination by Colin Wilson early in the first period to play a mishandled puck from Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford and center the puck to Patric Hornqvist for the Predators first goal, only 26 seconds into the game.

Worst Play of the Game: The endless stream of penalties, ultimately leading to two 5 on 3 power-plays for a deadly Chicago PP unit. Thankfully none of these were converted, but it’s never a good thing to be playing on your heels for most of the game. It’s harder to score when you’re trapped in your zone.

My Three Stars:
#1: Patrick Kane – 2 goals, 1 assist, +3 and deadly all night.

#2: Patric Hornqvist – 2 goals created by the never-quit attitude that got him 30 goals two seasons ago.

#3: Patrick Sharp – One of the original “Predator killers.” Accounted for 2 assists, a +3 rating and led Chicago with 6 SOG.

I have to add, and I know I may catch flack for this, but the goal that put Chicago up 4-3 should not have counted. When I was first watching, I assumed Klein just caught an edge, fell and got beat by Bickell for the tally. Upon further review, Klein was tripped up by a passing Chicago Blackhawk. The officiating was mildly disturbing tonight as there was another questionable boarding non-call against Chicago on Tootoo towards the end of the third period.

All that aside, it was a very fun and interesting game to watch and the resiliency of the Predators to keep battling back after losing the lead three times and forcing overtime is definitely a positive. As long as Nashville keeps this mindset and they continue to get players healthy such as Fisher and Kostitsyn, the Predators can make great strides in November.
