Game 7: Nashville @ Calgary – Out of the Oven, Into the Fire

The Nashville Predators (2-3-1) can’t seem to find an answer to their problems, dropping their 4th straight game on Thursday night to Vancouver Canucks 5-1. Yet, they may have received the extra bit of energy they needed when Shea Weber escaped a suspension yesterday after his boarding call on Jannik Hansen.

Only receiving a $2,500 fine, Weber will be ready to turn this team around come 3pm CST against the Calgary Flames (2-3-1), a team who has the same record and some of the same problems as the Predators.

Last Year’s Series: 0-2-2 (0-0-2 Home, 0-2 Away)

Last Season’s Video Recaps:
Game 1 – October 19th, 2010:

Game 2 – January 24th, 2011:

Game 3 – February 1st, 2011:

Game 4 – March 6th, 2011:

Looking at the Flames: Problems? The Flames have a couple. Just like Nashville, they are working their way through early season problems, now alternating between wins and losses and finding themselves with the same record the Predators currently have at 2-3-1.

In all 4 of Calgary’s losses, they gave up 3 or more goals. In both of Calgary’s wins, they only gave up 1.

Very telling statistic.

Looking at the Predators: Nashville just can’t find an answer to any of their problems. When the Predators only had 12 shots on net against Edmonton, they came out with a lot more energy against the Vancouver Canucks EARLY in the first…and then let in 4 goals that period.

Now, where those against Rinne? Not really. Poor defense and lucky bounces got the best of Nashville early and caused Rinne to get the loss against the Canucks.

So, goaltending isn’t the problem, not in the least. Will the Predators learn from their mistakes so far and try to exact revenge against a team they didn’t beat at all last season?

For the Flames to win: If things stay the way they are in Pred-Nation, the Flames won’t have to do much. Nashville has been shooting themselves in the proverbial foot as of late, now losers of 4 straight.

However, in the case that the Predators do try to turn the tables on their own fortune, Calgary will need exemplary goaltending from Mikka Kiprusoff. Any time Kipper is on the ice, the Flames always have a chance to win the game.

For the Predators to win: Find your heart.

Nashville has played less-than-stellar hockey over their 4 game losing streak, almost like something snapped off after the 10 minute mark of the second period against New Jersey.

The Predators always talk about playing with the “Predator Way”, however why haven’t they actually been playing with it?

Only time will tell how long this current losing streak will continue, however there is already dissension among Predators fans. How many will jump ship if this streak hits double digits? You can only hope things don’t get that bad, however if the ship doesn’t right itself soon there could be no end in sight.
