Predators Lose to Phoenix in Home Opener

A night that saw the Phoenix Coyotes jump out to a 4-0 lead by mid-point of the second period, the Predators, try as they did, couldn’t muster enough offense and drop their home opener by a score of 5-2.

Special Teams:
Powerplay – 0 for 3, 0%
Penalty Kill – 2 for 2, 100%

Best Play of the Game: After the raining down of “SHOOT” from the sellout crowd, Suter blasts a shot five hole on LaBarbera to score short-handed for the first goal of the night for the Predators.

Worst Play of the Game: The majority of the time that the top line for the Predators (Smith/Legwand/Wilson) was on the ice with Klein and Blum (both -3 on the night). Also a dishonorable mention to Niclas Bergfors who for lack of a better word was detrimental to the Predators by first missing a golden chance early in the first period to bury a sure goal and also for going a -2 with a whopping 9:39 of ice time.

My Three Stars:
#1: Shane Doan – 1 goal, 1 assist
#2: David Schlemko – 1 goal, +3
#3: David Legwand – 2 assists

The Predators are in desperate need to get some of their first liners back in the form of Mike Fisher, Martin Erat, and Patric Hornqvist. Hornqvist could be ready to go Saturday against the Devils, and Fisher is reported as being a possibility on the upcoming western road trip next week. It has also been reported that the timetable for Erat’s return is uncertain.
