Game 2 – Nashville @ St. Louis: Back-to-Back Beginning?

The Predators started the season off with a bang last night as Suter/Halischuk/Craig Smith all got on the board in a 3-2 win against the Blue Jackets. They’ll be continuing their road “Home Opening” extravaganza with the second of their back-to-back games this weekend by taking on the St. Louis Blues tonight in St. Louis as the Blues open their season against Nashville.

Looking at the Blues: St. Louis brought in veterans Jason Arnott (a former Predator) and Jamie Langenbrunner to help lead their young players in their development, yet what people may forget about the Blues is they still have a world-class goaltender in Jaroslav Halak, plus their roster doesn’t contain a bunch of flops either. Nashville has to match up against Backes, Berglund, Jackman, Oshie, Shattenkirk, Steen, Stewart, and more. So it should definitely be an interesting night.

Looking at the Predators: Nashville grabbed their 7th victory in 13 tried on opening night yesterday with a 3-2 win against Columbus. The most entertaining part, though? Rookie Craig Smith getting on the board in his first ever NHL game, along with hitting a post in addition to that as well. The defensive pairing of Laakso/Hillen didn’t look as sharp as it did in the preseason, however

For the Blues to win: St. Louis seems to have pretty good luck against Nashville in their home arena as of late. If Halak can step up his game and if the young crew in St. Louis can get some points on the board early, they’ll have a good chance at evening up Nashville’s record while starting off their season on the right note. (See what I did there?)

For the Predators to win: Nashville needs to come out and get something done in the first period. The Predators scored 2 in the second and 1 in the third however had a few chances in the first but couldn’t convert. They need to get on the board early and hold St. Louis down for the remainder of the game to make themselves 2-0 early this season
