WCSF – Predators @ Canucks, Game 2 – No Passengers

The Predators continue the Western Conference Semifinals in Vancouver as they take on the Canucks in game 2 of the best of seven series.

Looking at the Canucks: Vancouver replayed Game 7 on Thursday night for Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals against a befuddled Nashville Predators team. The Canucks entire corp showed up for the first of the best of seven series and decidedly handled a Preds team and showed Nashville exactly why they are the Number 1 seed in the league. Chris Higgins turned into the unlikely hero and goalie Roberto Luongo wasn’t really worked much until the third period. Nashville was unable to get any kind of ground throughout the entire game as Vancouver bottled them up in the neutral zone and powered through the Predators with an aggressive forecheck and backcheck. You have to wonder if Vancouver can come out with the exact same intensity they had Thursday for Game 2.

Looking at the Predators: Some have called Thursday night’s loss the “worst loss of the season”, I definitely wouldn’t go that far. Embarrassing? That’s more like it. Nashville was beaten up and down the ice by a harder skating, much more aggressive Canucks team. They were outshot, outchanced, and decidedly beaten in the faceoff circle through 40 minutes of the game. However a definite bright spot was the last 20 minutes of the game. Nashville actually looked like a team and nearly tied the game in the final minutes. It’ll be interesting how to see how this seriously “embarrassed” Predators team will come out tonight.

For the Canucks to win: PLAY BETTER THAN THURSDAY NIGHT. Vancouver played great 2 nights ago, however they will have to play better to beat the Predators on game 2. A bad bounce gave the Canucks their only goal of the night, however Pekka Rinne stopped every thing else Vancouver threw towards the net. If Vancouver expects to win, they have to play just as good AND better and find a way to get more pucks behind Rinne.

For the Predators to win: EVERYONE BUT RINNE HIT THE RESET BUTTON. Rinne needs to continue exactly what he is doing but the rest of the team needs to hit that reset button. Nashville’s offensive forwards were utterly embarrassed Thursday night and you know they won’t be forgetting that anytime soon. The Predators need to continue their brilliant penalty killing, start getting some more action on the powerplay, and play their best game of the entire season.

Prediction: 3-1 Nashville in regulation. The Preds are not going to want a repeat performance from their forwards tonight and will come out strong, fast, and will overpower an unexpected Canucks team to tie the series at 1

BEST OF SEVEN Record: 0-0
