Game 5…Overtime…sound familiar? Yeah, it has to the Predators over the past three season. This time, with different results. Jerred Smithson scores 1:57 into overtime to give the Nashville Predators their first ever Game 5 in, their first ever playoff overtime win, and their first ever third win in a playoff series.

Special Teams:

Powerplay – 0 for 2, 0%
Powerplay For The Playoffs – 5 for 23, 21.7%

Penalty Kill – 1 for 2, 50%
Penalty Kill For The Season – 13 for 20, 65%

Best Play of the Game: Jordin Tootoo, who had 2 assists tonight, feeds Jerred Smithson who is front and center and pots the game winner to send the Predators home to a raucous crowd Sunday night with a 3-2 series lead

Worst Play of the Game: Legwand gets absolutely FOOLED twice by Bobby Ryan who undresses him AND Pekka Rinne to score 40 seconds into the third period and give the Ducks a 2-1 lead

Players (Good and Bad) of the Game:
The Good: Jordin Tootoo – Where did THIS Tootoo come from? This game was the epitome of everything Jordin has been working to come back from since his rehab. A strong, 2 assist night (including the game-winning assist) from the Predators agitator is probably one of the more defining moments of his career

The Bad: Shane O’Brien – He’s very good at crashing bodies on the board…but he’s taking unneeded penalties in a very tight playoff series. This doesn’t need to happen in Game 6

My Preds #1 Star: Jerred Smithson – 1st ever Nashville Predators OT playoff goal? Yeah, that gets you the #1 star

Synopsis: Nashville may have just pulled a Chicago Blackhawks. Let’s take a trip back 1 year ago:

13.6 seconds left in Game 5. Nashville is on a powerplay for a Marian Hossa hit on Dan Hamhuis that gave the Preds 5 whole minutes to run down the clock. However, Chicago had different plans and scored to tie the game…shorthanded. 5 minutes into overtime, after the penalty expires, Chicago takes the game and ends up winning in Nashville on Game 6. Chicago goes on to win the cup.

Fast-forward 1 year:

38 seconds left in Game 5. Nashville is fading after allowing 2 goals (1 a highlight reel goal) in the third period after leading most of the game. Mike Fisher wins a faceoff, dishes to Franson, who passes to Weber, who hits the back of the net. 1:57 into overtime, Nashville takes the game.

What happens in Game 6? Who’s to tell? But take a look at last season’s series vs Chicago:

Predators win Game 1
Blackhawks win Game 2
Predators win Game 3
Blackhawks win Game 4
Blackhawks win Game 5
Blackhawks win Game 6

Now, look at the series with Anaheim:

Predators win Game 1
Ducks win Game 2
Predators win Game 3
Ducks win Game 4
Predators win Game 5
? win Game 6

Only time will tell, however we do know one thing: Nashville isn’t going quietly into the night. The Predators have a chance to do something in a Game 6 they’ve never had before…win a series. Not force a game 7…but win a series. Can they finish it and look forward to a second round?

Game 6 is Sunday night in Nashville. Gametime is 5:00pm CST

Series Record: 3-2, Predators Lead
