Best of Nineteen – Game 12, Anaheim VS Nashville: Someone’s gonna break

The Predators continue their “best of 19″ series when they face off against the Anaheim Ducks in the second game of a 4 game homestand and try to break the 4-game win streak of the Ducks while stretching their own to 5.

Looking at the Ducks: Who’s hot right now? Definitely the Ducks. However, not thanks to anyone but their late heroics. The Ducks have won 4 in a row, 9 of 11, and 3 straight in the OT period (twice by Corey Perry) to keep them on pace with the rest of the Western Conference. Anaheim currently holds 8th place in the West, however they are being shadowed by both Dallas (1 pt behind, Preds see them Saturday) and Calgary (2 pts behind, currently only have 6 games remaining). An interesting stat here though is the special teams of the Ducks. Anaheim has currently gone 23% (3-13) on the powerplay in their 4 game streak…but only 80% (12-15) on the penalty kill

Looking at the Predators: Nashville also comes rolling in with a 4 game winning streak and some of it definitely could be due to late heroics. The Predators have won 4 in a row, 6 of 7, and 8 of 12, with 2 of the past 4 being in OT. Nashville currently holds the 7th spot in the west, while tied for 5th and only SEVEN (you read that right) points out of the division lead from a injured and stumbling Detroit. In special teams during their 4 game stretch, the Predators have done fairly well in their power play, going 33% (3-9), however their penalty kill has given up at least one goal in the past 3 games, going 75% (9-12).

For the Ducks to win: The Ducks know how to beat the Predators and when they choose to it usually involves Teemu Selanne. If Selanne gets on the board at any point in time during this game, it could spell doom for the Predators. In their past 11 games with the Predators, Anaheim is 4-0-0 when The Finnish Flash gets a goal. So, if Teemu gets on the board? Chance are the Ducks are leaving with 2 points

For the Predators to win: SIXTY MINUTES. The Predators have played well in their past 4 games, giving nearly 60 minutes of effort in each…however NEARLY 60 minutes of effort isn’t going to be enough to beat the Ducks. Some players have definitely turned on their respective “playoff” modes (The Wardratwand, Batman and Robin, The Eraser, all of the nicknamed players), however some players have yet to show up. It’s time for EVERYONE to get to the party and start to believe that this team is going to go far. Nashville is going to need a quick start and will need to keep their foot on the throat of the Ducks to make sure they don’t allow any leapfrog action after tonight’s game

Prediction: 3-2 Predators in Overtime. NO ONE wants a three point game, but I think tonight gets it there. The Ducks ARE going to tie it late in the game, just like last night versus Dallas, but this time they won’t get the extra point and the Predators will cap off the win and stretch their streak to 5

Playoff Outlook: 88 points, Currently, 7th place/Tied for 5th – 3 points out of 4th, 7 points out of 2nd

Best of 19 Record: 7-2-2

March Record: 7-2-2

What SportsClubStats Says?: 84.1% chance the Predators make it. The Predators need 99+ points to secure a playoff spot. They are currently 11 points out of a possible 16 points behind that
