MARCH IS GOOD! The Predators get a goal each from their non-traditional hockey market players and grab two hard fought points from the Red Wings, beating them 3-1 in front of a sold out crowd
Powerplay – 1 for 2, 50%
Powerplay For The Season – 36 for 238, 15.1%
Penalty Kill – 2 for 3, 67%
Penalty Kill For The Season – 36 for 245, 85.3%
Best Play of the Game: Pekka Rinne’s apparent-monster arm getting in the way of a Wings-shot early in the first period. That goal goes in? This game may have turned into a very different game
Worst Play of the Game: Shea Weber’s retribution hit on Patrick Eaves. I do understand that the refs were hiding their whistles in the first period, but that is no reason why you, our captain and leader on this team, need to lose your cool and take what SHOULD have been a more serious penalty than that. Weber could have, as Jeremy Gover from Section303.com said, easily gotten 5 minutes for that play, but instead got 2.
Players (Good and Bad) of the Game:
The Good: Pekka Rinne – My oh my oh my. 39 saves on 40 shots. 39 HUGE saves. Tonight’s win gets Pekka within 0.01 of Tim Thomas for the league lead in GAA and 0.007 of Tim Thomas for the league lead in Save Percentage
The Bad: Brian Rafalski – Very quietly had an all around bad night for the Red Wings. -2 on the night, no points and no shots on the goal
My Preds #1 Star: Pekka Rinne – Yeah, I know Blummer had a HUGE game winner and Bam Bam was pretty good too…but without Pekks? This game would’ve been toast (much like a lot of other games as well this year). Pekka is our #1 star on most nights
Synopsis: What an incredible game to watch tonight, especially if your a first-time fan in tonights sold out crowd. the game started and ended about how I thought it would, with the Wings pressuring.
All three periods showcased a LOT of quality chances for both teams (including MULTIPLE 2-1 breakaways for the Predators) however this games score was very tight through 3 periods. You would’ve thought, with 20 shots in the third frame, that Detroit was going to put one in and BOY did they have their chances! Whew, just good for the Preds that they have such a goaltender in Pekka Rinne. Pekka is SUCH a brick wall in the net that it reminds me of this commercial (minus the huge manatee of a goalie):
