Best of Nineteen – Game 3, Calgary VS Nashville: FLAME UP

The Predators continue their “best of 19″ series tonight when they come into the Saddledome to try and vanquish what’s becoming their “nemesis” in the Calgary Flames, a team that Pekka Rinne has NEVER beat.

Looking at the Flames: The Flames are rolling, as of late. 6-2-1 in their past 9, 3 shut outs, and averaging 4 goals a game in that stretch. This team was dead, DEAD, WAAAY out of the playoff hunt about a month or so ago, and look now! This team is ahead of the Predators and in the thick of the playoff hunt. Most of it can be attributed to the great play of their goaltender, but a lot of it has to do with just finding their heart. This team found whatever it is they lost at the beginning of the season and have come to true form…however, can it stay? Or will they go back to the Flames everyone was used to.

Looking at the Predators: What a win can do to brighten your day! The Predators 3-0 shut out win against the Canucks got them back into the playoff hunt and helped ease their minds for at least ONE day about not being able to score goals and not being able to finish an opponent in the third period. Now, though, we play against a team we have not beat all year…BUT, we’ve gotten at least one point in two games against them. However, that won’t be enough tonight against the Flames. Three close games against them this season and we all know the fourth one will be as well, however we have to know what extra gears the Predators have in their system for tonights game, because against this team they’ll need every one of them

For the Flames to win: Strong goaltending and your POWER PLAY. In their 9 game stretch, the Flames have been riding the coat-tails of Mikka Kiprusoff and their now dynamic power play, which is converting at blistering 29.4% in those 9 games. However they go up against a 4th rank penalty kill in the Nashville Predators. If the Flames can keep up their Vezina-like goaltending and continue to slice apart opponents penalty kills, then they should have no problem giving the ol’ 1-2 to the Predators tonight.

For the Predators to win: Hey…remember that Vancouver game? Yeah, more of that. The Predators played UP to the level of the Canucks and then rightfully demolished them in the third period. If the Predators don’t just play up to the level of the Flames, but play THEIR level of hockey and forget about other teams, then they final 17 games they have should produce similar results. However, they need more help. They need MORE goal support for Pekka Rinne, they need MORE help from the Powerplay, and they need CONTINUAL support from the Penalty Kill. If they play the Predator hockey we know they can do, then these boys will be all right

Prediction: NONE. I’m superstitious, and now 2-1-1 when not making predictions. That will continue through March.

Playoff Outlook: 75 points, Currently, 10th place – 1 point out of 8th and 2 points out of 7th
