Gameday Thoughts – Coyotes VS Predators: Game 59

Saturday night, the Coyotes come in to Nashville, TN and play against the Nashville Predators in game 59 for the Preds.

Looking at the Coyotes: This team mirrors the Predators in a lot of ways: A lot of blue-collar guys working together every night to get the best results and try to gain as many points along the way. They have INCREDIBLE coaching with Dave Tippet behind the bench. Past that? It’s kinda hard to gauge them. They’re a mediocre scoring team, a mediocre defending team, and are in the bottom 10 in both Powerplay and Penalty Kill percentages. So, to an extent, it surprises me that they are leading their division. Never count this team out, though, as they always seem to surprise EVERYONE

Looking at the Predators: Things are looking a bit brighter for the Preds. They’ve won 4 of their past 6 and are averaging right around 2 and a half goals per game in those 6. They’re goaltending has been unbelievable as well. Pekka Rinne has been nearly unstoppable and is right on the heels of Tim Thomas for both the GAA and Save Percentage (and Vezina for that matter). The Preds are battling to stay in the race for the Central Division trying to catch Detroit, however they are having to match them win for win as Detroit has won 4 in a row (including Friday night’s win versus Florida)

For the Coyotes to win: Do what they did back on November 3rd (their only victory against the Predators this year). Keep the Predators on their toes and use your young guns to rush the puck down the ice and try to overpower the Predators defense. In their past 6 games, they’ve won them all (2 by shutout and 4 by 1 goal). they’ll need to play some serious defense and have some incredible goaltending if they plan on stealing 2 points out of Bridgestone Arena.

For the Predators to win: Stay consistent. Playing 60 minutes of hockey earns you wins in this league and the Predators know this all too well. This team is guilty of not playing a full 60 minutes on more than one occasion this year, however whenever they DO play 60 minutes, they nearly always come out on top. Scoring 3 goals as well? Yeah that doesn’t hurt either. The Predators are 28-4-1 when scoring 3 or more goals per game…yeah, just think about that for a minute. 57 of 66 possible points. If the Predators score goals, they win games. That’s your John Madden line of the night

Prediction: Short and sweet, the Predators are going to win this one. They are 6-1-2 at the Bridgestone Arena since the start of 2011 getting 3 or more goals in ALL of their wins here. So, I think the Predators are going to meet that margin and win it

Predators win it: 3-1

3 Star Guesses:
1) Patric Hornqvist
2) Pekka Rinne
3) Joel Ward
